Windsong wins the FAF’s Ralph E. Brown Award

It’s time to get a wee-bit sentimental here, folks. This week has yielded some incredible things: an end to prop inventory (my personal favorite), Byron finally changing out of his favorite plaid shirt (Jo’s personal favorite), oh and Anthony may have discovered fresh talent in his insurance agent. But, these are all beyond the point of this fine blog. This week Windsong Productions was honored with an award in the memory of Ralph E. Brown by the Fresno Advertising Federation. In their presentation of the first ever Ralph E. Brown award, the Fresno Advertising Federation said, “They [Windsong Productions] are deserving of this award for their innovative approach as a new, creative, local production studio that is led by a talented staff.”

What some of you readers may not know is that this award held incredible meaning for our very own Byron Watkins. Byron began as a graphic designer but soon learned that he was destined for a different path. That path was unclear until Ralph E. Brown and his constituents gave Byron his start in the vast world of video production. In his heartfelt acceptance speech, Byron described Brown as, “an amazing boss, just one of the best you could ask for.” Later in his career, Byron got the chance to hire Brown for jobs and called the experience “surreal”.

Without a doubt, this award was an honor to accept. I will leave you with the final words from Byron’s speech, “It is surreal to me that we would be receiving an award in Ralph’s honor as it is still hard to accept that he is even gone. He was a friend and I miss him terribly, thank you.”
