From the Reclaimed Wood Desk of Haley: Highlights!

Haley recaps 10 of her favorite little Windsong moments from 2014.

2014 was a busy and productive year at Windsong. We interviewed hip-hop legends like Puff Daddy and Ludacris. We hung out at Fresno State with NFL quarterbacks the Carr brothers. We teamed up with Rupert from Survivor and tie-dyed everything we could get our little hands on. But like Abraham Lincoln (might have) once said, “It’s the little things that make working at Windsong fun.” Some of my own favorite memories from 2014 were the simple fleeting moments that happened at the office when none of our cameras were rolling. Here are ten Highlights.

1) From fur babies to human babies, Windsong gained a lot of new family members in 2014. Below, Kyle introduces us to Logan for the first time and Jo babysits Kubrick (Byron’s puppy). We also got to know Tesla (Sara’s doggie) and we finished the year learning about the impending 2015 arrival of Baby K, Krause and wife Chelsea’s firstborn son.

2) Any time Tony had kitchen duty, the break room was immaculate. And it was the most wonderful time of the year.

3) Dave somehow got access to a nerf gun. He now carries it with him everywhere he goes and if you ask him for help with anything, there’s a 35% chance you’ll get hit with a suction cup dart instead. It’s a little alarming, but mostly endearing.

4) We celebrated our third anniversary in August with a B-Movie Themed Extravaganza. Our friend Peter Carrion helped us create a B-Movie poster to promote the event. The illustration of Byron below took place a few weeks BEFORE the real life picture of him actually riding a mechanical shark. So. Does life imitate art or does art imitate life? Is time linear? If Byron rides a shark in the ocean and he is the only one there to see it, does it really happen?

5) Speaking of the anniversary party, I’m not sure if anyone else in the world noticed this, but Jo tried to weasel her squid-head into all of the party photos. The bottom pic is my fave.

6) Poetry magnet battles were a thing. Someone got sassy about their hot beverages, so I responded underneath.

Because, you know, feminism.

7) Former Windsonger and current New Yorker Anthony Taylor visited Fresno in the fall. We decided to all go out to dinner together — because we love him and stuff. The restaurant had really good food, but really bad servers. All of the glasses in the world ended up on our table by the end of the meal because no one ever bothered to remove the empty ones. We were like Thorin in The Hobbit, except our claim was to a treasure of mason jars instead of gold. And we didn’t really want any of them. So actually, we weren’t anything like Thorin from the Hobbit. We were just people who waited three hours for food.

8) For the holidays, we had a pajama day with BLARE Media. I was reminded that I work with a bunch of folks who are still very young at heart. The next day when everyone was back in their regular clothes, I was reminded that I didn’t need to be reminded of that at all.

9) Dave does this thing where he messes around in Photoshop and creates these ridiculous collages of Windsong staff members and names them things like “The Conlage” and “The Krauslage”. They bring me immeasurable joy.

10) Joy to the world, Jo’s brother drew this SPOT-ON cartoon of Conlan. And famine ended, war was over, and nobody on earth was ever sad again.
